On September 9, 2017, the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce co-hosted its Southwest Wake Community Festival at Hope Community Church in Apex. This year, this free and open to the public business expo, featured Fuquay-Varina, Apex and Holly Springs Chamber members and prospects. This was a chance for new and existing businesses to introduce themselves to the community. Many businesses handed out flyers, discounts, samples and some had very popular spinning wheels full of great prizes. There were a few food trucks as well as a fun zone for the kids.
Evan and I, along with a few of Fuquay Varina Chamber employees, Linda, Kate, and Bogdan, were at the Innovate Fuquay-Varina or InnovateFV booth. We were there to spread the word about this exciting startup community in Southern Wake County. InnovateFV is an initiative that has been designed to help match mentors and business experts with new entrepreneurs to coach them on how to turn their aspiring business dreams into reality. InnovateFV is open to new and existing businesses. There is also a five-month startup initiative for those who have a business idea but don’t know where to begin. This initiative consists of a startup focused events and workshops.
While at the Southwest Wake Community Fest, we networked with the participating business owners, some of them just started their businesses not too long ago. We tried to connect with local visitors to introduce InnovateFV. There were a few interested people who stuck around our table asking many questions. It is amazing how many of them have their own ideas or businesses they were trying to spread awareness to.
The InnovateFV business weekend will be taking place during the weekend of January 26 through January 28, 2018. All participants need to register in their desired category, there are five to choose from, and are expected to attend the networking events and workshops. InnovateFV was inspired by a global entrepreneurial movement “Startup Weekend” in hopes to produce long-term business success for startups in Fuquay Varina, NC. I love helping small and medium-size businesses grow by creating websites and marketing them using Google, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I started my business way back in the dawn of the Internet in 1995, building websites part-time. My wife told me I should get a full-time job selling websites because I love what I am doing so much. She showed me a newspaper ad in the Washington Post for an Internet Business Advisor at washingtonpost.com . I applied and got the job, I was selling websites to local businesses for Washington Post, now I have my own business! WordPress is my favorite Website creation software.
